-
Aesthetics. This is personal taste, emotion or sentiment will often influence ones choice of design.
-
Practicality. It is important to decide how often, when and where you will be wearing a piece. There is a difference
between hardness and durability in metal, hardness and brittleness in stones. An engagement ring will need to be durable
as it will be worn daily, over a long period of time, so Platinum and a Diamond would be ideal as they are
both durable. A silver and Emerald ring would not be as suitable as both materials are not very durable.
Everyone carries themselves differently and has different lifestyles, so it is not possible to say a Platinum ring
will last longer than a Gold ring, but it is possible to say that a Platinum ring is more durable. Obviously
ear studs, pendants etc. don't take as much wear as rings.
